Si President Rodrigo Duterte ay nahihirapan na sa mabagal na serbisyo
na inaalok ng Globe Telecoms at PLDT.
Ayon sa announcement sa Malacañang nitong Lunes (Nobyembre
20), inalok ni Duterte ang China ng pagkakataon na maging third player sa
industriya ng telekomunikasyon ng bansa.
Sinabi ni Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque na nag-offer si Pangulong Duterte sa kanyang bilateral talk sa Chinese Premier Li Keqiang noong nakaraang linggo.
Sa isang press briefing, sinabi ni Roque na ang China ay, “has
the capital and the technology to provide efficient telecom service.”
“With the number of subscribers that Chinese telecoms
company have in China, there can be no doubt that they are amongst the biggest
in the world,” pahayag ni Roque.
“Consider also the proximity and the fact that we want to
avail of as much economic advantage that we could arising from the renewed
friendly ties with China,” dagdag pa ni Roque.
Sinabi niya na napakaseryoso si Duterte tungkol sa paghiwa-hiwalay sa duopoly
ng Globe at PLDT na inatasan niya na ang lahat ng aplikasyon ay isampa at
kumilos nang direkta sa Office of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
Ayon pa kay Roque, ang mga Pilipino ay maaaring umasa ng mas mabilis at mas
mahusay na serbisyo sa internet sa lalong madaling panahon dahil bukod sa
pagpasok ng isang ikatlong manlalaro sa industriya ng telco, ang pamahalaan ay
nag-sign din ng deal sa isang subsidiary ng Facebook para sa pag-install ng
fiber optic cable network sa Luzon.
