Sinabi ng oposisyong Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan noong Miyerkules na ang paglagay ng impeach Commission on Elections chairman na si Andres Bautista sa paglilitis ay magiging isang pag-aaksaya ng oras, dahil inihayag na ang kanyang layunin na magbitiw sa Disyembre.

“The penalty for a conviction in an impeachment trial is removal from office. Since he has resigned effective end of the year, I don't see any reason why the Senate should convene as an impeachment court,” ayon kay Sen. Pangilinan.



Sinabi rin niya na, “It would be a waste of our time. For all intents and purposes, the matter is moot,”

Pinigilan ni Senador Francis Pangilinan ang antas na ito noong Miyerkules pagkatapos bumoto ang House of Representatives upang iimpeach si Bautista. Ang lower chamber’s action ay nagresulta sa mga Senado na magtipun-tipon para sa impeachment trial.

Sinabi ni Pangilinan na ang parusa para sa isang napatunayang pagkakasala sa isang impeachment trial ay aalisin mula sa opisina.



“Since he has resigned effective end of the year I don’t see any reason why the Senate should convene as an impeachment court,” banggit pa ng Senador.

Si social media accounts ni Bautista, ay inihayag niya noong Miyerkules ng umaga na siya ay magreresign na sa kanyang puwesto bilang Comelec Chairman hanggang sa pagtatapos ng taon.
