Political experts react to COMELEC Chairman Andres Bautista's wife exposé
An exposé has shocked the Monday morning of Filipinos when Mrs. Patricia Bautista, wife of COMELEC chairman Andres Bautista revealed that the latter allegedly stockpiled nearly P1 billion worth of ill-gotten wealth.

This was shared by Mrs. Bautista in a press conference with different media outlets.

Mrs. Bautista presented more than 30 passbooks as well as bank and real property documents under her husband’s name and some of his relatives that were not included in his 2016 statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

Several prominent political analysts and social media bloggers reacted to this issue and almost all believe that allegations of Mrs. Bautista to her husband are true.

Krizette Laureta Chu, an alumnus of New York University said part of the money that went to Andres Bautista is money from Yolanda donors.

"P1 billion. I am very sure part of the money that went to Andres Bautista is money from Yolanda donors. Mga put*ng Ina niyo LP. Ang gagaling ninyo sa EJK EJK eh kayo ang totoong kriminal," she said.

"Strike a plea deal with Bautista. Ask him who gave him P1 billion pesos and for what. In exchange for jail time, the heads of LP, and Leni Robredo, who should vacate her seat ASAP. It took more than 1 billion (because P1billion is for Bautista alone) to make you VP, you useless woman. KAYA PALA KAPIT TUKO KAYO. KAYA PALA PARA KAYONG MGA ASONG ULOL," she added.

MJ Quiambao Reyes, a social media blogger and an international trade expert challenged spouses of so-called corrupt politicians to copy Patricia Bautista's bravery.

"Calling all the betrayed & estranged spouses of corrupt politicians & govt. employees to please do a 'Tish Bautista'--for the good of our country and for the safety of your children and your own," Reyes said.

Antonio P. Contreras, a full professor at De La Salle University and a political analyst questioned as to where Andres Bautista got that huge amount of money.

"Still, the question is where did all the money come from. And even if these come from siblings and relatives, since they are under his name, did he declare these in his SALN?," Contreras asked.

Rocky Gonzales, writer and academic posted several screenshots of Arnold Clavio's blind items on Abante from months back. The said blind item was apparently pointing to Andres Bautista.

"As a very public and scandalous revelation has been plastered all over both traditional and social media today, let us recall where we first heard the murmurs of this affair, casting a dark shadow on both the political clans and high society of the Philippines," Gonzales wrote.

Bruce Rivera, a renowned laywer, said lawyers do earn good money from lawyering especially when they parlay into other business ventures. And maybe possible to have that amount money in legal practice. But to earn PhP15 million a month for 21 years is pretty hard to do.

"Here is my point. Yes lawyers do earn good money lawyering especially when they parlay into other business ventures. And yes it maybe possible to have that amount money in legal practice. But to earn PhP15million a month for 21 years is pretty hard to do. In fact, if I am earning that amount of money, I do not even want to be President of the Philippines much less COMELEC Chairman," Atty. Rivera said.

Meanwhile, COMELEC Chairman Andres Bautista held a press conference today and denied the accusations of his wife, telling that all allegations are a complete lie and a form of extortion.
