DOJ Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said that De Lima may be at fault on RWM incident
Department of Justice Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre tags Senator Leila de Lima on the Resorts World Manila attack for issuing a legal opinion on casino fire accidents.

In the radio interview at DZMM, Sec. Aguirre said that de Lima called off the Bureau of Fire Protection’s jurisdiction over the Resorts World Manila and other casinos, as issued in the 2014 department opinion. De Lima delegated the responsibility to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

"Ang sinabi niya po sa opinion na iyun ay huwag makialam ang Bureau of Fire Protection sa kanilang pag-enforce ng fire laws kundi ito ay nasa ilalim ng PEZA," Sec. Aguirre said. Secretary Aguirre added that it seems doubtful on why DOJ have to issue that certain legal opinion, whereas PEZA has no power to implement fire laws in the country.

Sec. Aguirre also said that the said opinion made the Bureau of Fire Protection became negligent in their actions. Jessie Carlos, the assailant in the RWM, burned some areas  in the casino last week

There were 37 casualties in the said attacks comprising employees and clients of the said casino due to suffocation when they weren’t able to get out in the building.

However, the management insisted that the sprinkler system worked as the fire was set in the building.
