HOT TOPIC: DOTr calls out misleading and incorrect headline of ABS-CBN News on Anti-Distracted Driving Law

Department of Transportation clarified in their Facebook page that the headline of a news report aired in ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol yesterday the total prohibition of using navigational applications will be strictly disallowed in reference to Anti-Distracted Driving Act (ADDA).

DOTr explained to the driving public that motorists that usage of the said navigational apps like WAZE and GOOGLE MAPS while driving is still possible as long as they use the aid of the device’s hands free or to be operated without using the hands of the driver, in addition to this, the Department said that usage of these applications are permissible as long as the device does not obstruct or interfere the driver’s line of sight. 

Drivers are also recommended to set their area of destination prior to their trip. In cases when motorists needed to change route while caught in traffic, they must first pull aside their vehicles.

DOTr then urged news agencies to uphold accuracy in airing or publishing news reports so as not to misinform and create confusion among the motorists. 

The Department also requested news channels and agencies who have reported the same information, ABS-CBN specifically, to correct their previous report/s.
